Frequently asked questions
Choosing a care home raises a lot of questions. Here are the ones we are asked most. If yours isn't here, call us on 01522 703012.
How do we arrange to look round?
Call us on 01522 703012 or send an enquiry and we will book a time. Visits are by appointment, so the manager can show you round, you can see the room that is actually available, and you can stay for lunch if you tell us when you book. Bring the person who would be moving in if they are able.
What types of care do you provide?
Residential care, dementia care, respite (short stays from a single night), day care and palliative care. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission for accommodation and personal care, care of adults over 65, dementia care and physical disabilities.
Are you a nursing home?
No. Wispington House is a residential care home. Our team provides personal care and support around the clock and works closely with GPs, district nurses and community teams for anything clinical.
What is your CQC rating?
We were rated Good at our last inspection, and Good in all five of the CQC's key questions: safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. The full report is on the CQC website.
How much does it cost, and how is care funded?
Fees depend on the type of care and the level of support someone needs, so please call us to talk it through. Some people pay for their own care; others may get help after a care needs assessment and financial assessment from Lincolnshire County Council; and some people with complex health needs may qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare. We are happy to explain how the process works.
What are the rooms like?
We have 23 rooms. All bedrooms have hospital beds and a call system, and residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture, pictures and belongings.
When can family and friends visit?
Families are welcome to visit seven days a week. We also hold events such as our summer fayre, and families are very much part of them.
Can you take someone at short notice?
Often, yes. We offer respite from a single night upwards and help at short notice where we can. Call us to check availability.
Do you provide transport for day care?
No. We are not able to provide transport, so day care guests need to be brought to us and collected. There is plenty of parking on site.
What happens if someone's needs change?
Care plans are reviewed regularly with the resident and their family. If someone's needs change, we will tell you honestly and early rather than letting a situation drift.
What about food?
Everything is cooked on site, three times a day, and residents choose what they eat. Special diets can be discussed at the assessment.
What activities are there?
Activities run seven days a week: chair exercise, bingo and quizzes, gardening in raised beds, exercise trainers, therapy dog visits, walks into the village, one-to-one time, and our summer fayre. There is also a hairdresser on site.
Who looks after GP and health appointments?
We arrange GP, district nursing, chiropody, optician and dental visits for residents.
Where are you and how do we get there?
41 Mill Lane, Saxilby, Lincoln, LN1 2QD: six miles north-west of Lincoln, just off the A57. There is plenty of parking, and Saxilby railway station is a ten-minute walk away with direct trains from Lincoln. We are also within easy reach of Gainsborough, Skellingthorpe, Sturton by Stow and North Hykeham.
Still have a question?
Call the home and speak to someone who knows every resident by name.
